Flipping the Switch: Secrets for Great Classical and Jazz Saxophone Tone and How to Achieve Them Both
Many saxophonists achieve either a good classical tone or a good jazz tone, but few can do both and switch easily between the two. In this lecture, two professors of saxophone will discuss how to sound like a classical player when playing classical, and how to sound like a jazz player when playing jazz. They will demonstrate the ideals of classical and jazz saxophone tone and style through performance. They will also provide practical exercises, suggested recordings, and sample repertoire so that participants can develop the versatility needed to face the challenges of playing saxophone in the 21st century. Featuring Ed Fraedrich and Xavier Perez, moderated by John Kocur. All three presenters are professors at George Mason University.
